STATE OF WASTE STREAM
In 2018, about 146.2 million tons of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) were landfilled. Food was the largest component at about 24%. Plastics accounted for over 18%, paper and paperboard made up about 12%, and rubber, leather and textiles comprised over 11%. Other materials accounted for less than 10% each.

“Material repositories are the last line of defense for the environment. These facilities, along with recovery, are the solution, not the problem. The reason we have clean drinking water is because of the environmental protection these facilities provide.”
Robb Hermanson / Presidio Environmental
HOW MATERIAL REPOSITORIES WORK
“Material repositories – through the process of decomposition – provide green energy. Gas recovery is arguably the purest form of recycling that exists on the planet today. To take discarded material and convert it to energy and useful byproducts that benefit society is the uniqueness that these solid waste facilities provide to the community.”

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES
- Utilize closed repositories for solar energy fields.
- Develop solution for internal filtration and remediation of leachate.
- Capture repository gas energy.
